The massive red Writer’s Building was originally constructed as the dwelling place for the administrative and clerical staff British East India Company, who were called as writers. In this building
you can get the summary of
Bengal’s political revolution. The office of the chief minister also is situated in this building. The commencement of this edifice was done in 1690; it got destroyed in 1695 and then was again reconstructed inside the old fort in 1706. The construction of the new building was done with bricks. The location of this building is in Kolkata in West Bengal.
Writer’s Building is a properly maintained and has no threat of real estates demolition by developers in the mere future. The fundamental works of Writers’ Building today is traditionally known as ‘Mahakaran’ was accomplished in 1780. Then later, the committee’s member Barwell, who was the friend of Hastings, got to be the owner of the house. The house was handed over to the trustee board by his children who then rented to the Company. The Britons in
progress use this house as confidential business and for enjoyment. So the East India Company embarked on to imposing numerous boundaries on them that as a result made the house empty. The Fort William College of Kolkata was also in 1800, recognized here. In 1830 the College was however transferred here. In 1836, there was prohibition from Lord Bentinck to use the house for private affair. Between, 1877 – 1882, Linchpin of the department of Government was founded by Lt. Governor Ashley Eden at this place.
The present gargantuan edifice that is spread over 2.8 acres of land. It is 235 yards in width. A huddle of 13 four-storeyed structures, the ‘Mahakaran’ is situated on 10 acres of land. Now, approximately six thousand employees works in the Writer’s Building.
