The town gets its name from the Talab or water pond. It was Raja Tripur Chandra Bakshi who got this pond constructed in the year 1840 and thus the pong was called Bakshi ka Talab or Bakshi’s pond. The pond was made for the safety of the people here as at that time there was a brahminsena who attacked people who were led by PT Jagannath Shukla.

Raja Tripur Chand Bakshi was a co-ordinator of the Nawab of Lucknow in Awadh , Amjad Ali shah. This was during the times of 1842 to 1845. There are Ghats on all sides of the pond and there are historical tombs here . In fact there are eight of them. The Bakshi ka Talab has the best temple structures so you would see temples with Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna as the presiding deities. These are all situated on the “Talab” campus.
