Connect to the Almighty Spiritually and Religious in Paryushan
Paryushan is a religious festival celebrated annually by Jains, this festival is celebrated to deepen the consciousness of the spiritual observations. This festival mostly comes in September. The importance of this festival is that here in Jainism
fasting is done as a spiritual doings for purifying souls, strengthens relationships, increase knowledge and spiritual power.
The purpose of observing fast is to purify our souls by staying close to our ones soul, you can also minimize you fault by asking for forgiveness of our own’s faults, looking at our own fault. This is the time when Jains review their actions for environment, animals and others souls.
Paryashan is observed by observing fasts, reading
scriptures and all this is done in silence, this is done under the monks’ guidance in temples. They observe a strict fast wherein they are just on water and completely abstract from food from more than a week’s time. Depending on the capability of the individual complete fasting is observed which are minimum 8 days and maximum 31 days. Spiritual and Religious dissertations are held at the place of the narration of the stories of Lord Mahavira. There is a chanting done of the Namokar Mantra everyday, here forgiveness is the main part of celebration. When their fasting ends they ask for forgiveness for the wrongdoings and violence they might have done in the entire previous year. This festival is celebrated in all the parts of India like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and all other places where you can find Jain communities.
Digambara Jains do it for a time of 10 days through which Dashalakshana vrata is observed. There is a recitation of Tatwartha Sutra of Umaswati. On Chaturdasi they rejoice Ananta- Chaturdasi. Svwetambara Jains commemorate it an eight day festival that marks an end with Bhadarpada Shukla Panchami. Including the birth section of Mahavira, Kalpa Sutra is recited. The last day of fasting and celebration is called as Samvatsari. On this day the Jains greet each other, the members who fast for continuous all days of the fiesta are taken in procession to the temple, here they break their fast.
