Coconut Rice which is also known as Narali Bhat is prepared mostly on the occasion of Narali Poornima that is Raksha Bandhan, Onam, Pongal and many others. As you all know you have guests at your place so I am very sure that all the time what should be served special to the guest, so this Narali Poorima you can serve your relatives and guests with delicious Coconut Rice, ohh don’t wonder about how to prepare it as here is the recipe of how to make Coconut Rice. I remember when we were kids we used to go to our maternal granny’s place on occasion

of Raksha Bandhan and on this day she used to prepare the best Narali Bhat I have ever tasted it was just yummy, this is the only word that I can give it.

Coconut Rice

For making easy coconut rice you need :

Ingredeints :

  1. 1 Cup Rice (you can make use of Basmati Rice for the essence of giving the rice a elegant look)1 Cup Basmati Rice
  2. 1 Cup Shredded Coconut (frozen or fresh will do)
  3. 1 Cup Jaggery (If you want to make the rice a bit sweeter then you can use jaggery, also it increases the quantity by ¼ cup)
  4. 4 Cloves (lavang)
  5. 2-3 Tbs Ghee (use pure ghee if possible as its is add on for best taste)
  6. ¼ Tsp of Cardamon Powder
  7. ¼ Cup mix of dry fruits (This is optional)

Method :

  1. Wash the rice for 3 to 4 times and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 Tbs ghee in Kadhai or wok, after heating the ghee add cloves in it.
  3. Then you can add the washed/drained rice and make sure that you mix it pretty well so that every grain is over coated with the aroma of ghee and cloves.
  4. It is normally preferred to keep this now in a rice cooker on the cook mode, but if not availed with the option of rice cooker you can do the same in the wok by 3 cups of water.
  5. After finishing off with the prior stage you can add the remaining ghee and the jaggery so that I could melt well, keep an eye on the mixture as it burns easily.
  6. Then after the jaggery melts add the shredded coconut and mix it well.
  7. Allow the mixture to heat, until it is ready to serve.

Coconut Rice

Now your delicious Coconut Rice is ready to eat, you can also add colors to the rice if you wish.

REMEMBER : Whenever you use Basmati Rice look it in the ratio of 1:2 that is 1 cup rice and 2 cups water.
