Feel Closer to Nature at the Yeoor Hills, Thane
Located in the most pristine surroundings of beautiful greenery and lovely sights, is ensconced a perfectly beautiful land which is sure to enchant you with its simple beauty. A part of the Borivali National Park, this is a greatly fascinating region which is easily accessible from the Mumbai suburb Thane. One can easily drive down or take a bus. The bus stop for Yeoor is called the Patonapada stop.
Yeoor is the ideal destination during monsoons as one gets really enthralled by the powerful water bodies that are seen here. Visit this very popular monsoon destination just to feel closer to nature. There are deep woods here and there are innumerable waterfalls which completely leave a tourist mesmerized.
Since I live in Thane, it was but obvious that I would plan a trip to Yeoor Hills. So on one of those monsoon weekends, we went to this lovely green destination. Yeoor is one of those places where you would simply be stumped by the natural beauty. Though the place is very popular for the snakes that are found here, yet it is a perfectly safe place in the daytime. So people have to take care that they don’t venture out in the dark.
Approachable from the Eastern Express Highway or the Ghodbunder Road Yeoor is a lovely tranquil zone which is a must for a perfect weekend getaway. A great haunt of the morning walkers and the health freaks, the Yeoor Hills offer a perfectly peaceful experience and is a great way to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature. A great favourite of most of the adventure lovers, this is a much favoured spot for those who love trekking. When we went there, we were totally enchanted by the surroundings and completely taken in by the ambience. WE saw an Air Force Station area here and also some bungalows which are believed to be owned by the local wealthy people. The Air Force station cannot be accessed very easily as there are permits that are required to enter here after eight in the evening.
The Yeoor Hills is also called the Mama Bhanja Hills and is a major hill resort for most of the Thane residents and people in and around the city of Mumbai too. For all those who wish to have a quick getaway, then Yeoor is the spot. This is a naturally beautiful region and is a locale with absolutely no pollution. Many people are attracted to this place which is a great natural habitat for all fauna and for all varieties of foliage.
Home to innumerable species this is a great destination for all the nature lovers who love to feel the charm and beauty of the place. Around 78 bird species are found here and also some 12 different species of animals. It is a region with the highest population of leopards in India. As one treks up the Yeoor Hills the magical feel and the simple rustic ambience gives a great experience. The main attraction in the Yeoor Hills is the Mama Bhanja temple.
People love to go to Tikuji Ni Wadi which is a theme park very near the Yeoor Hills. So many of those who visit Yeoor also make it a point to go to Tikuji Ni Wadi. With around 6 villages in its vicinity, the Yeoor Hills has around 300 villages. The tribe population is famous here and is known by the local name of Varli. It is interesting to see the tribes coming up in this region and it is even more fascinating to enjoy the lovely natural sights that surround this entire place.
The Golden Swan Country Club which is one of the hotspots of Yeoor. All those who come here relax in this club and enjoy the facilities provided. You also have the Exotica and the Vashist Kutir which are other attractions for the locals. Amidst all these surrounding it is really not possible to get proper cell network so just switch off your cells and those lucky few who get the network would surely not want to use their phones.
There are many jungle camps that are located in the Yeoor Hills which are organized by many nature organizations. These camps expose you to mammals, birds, reptiles and birds. Yeoor has many leopards and also the mouse deer, cobras, pythons, the bamboo pit viper amongst many others. The Hills are very popular for the vivid variety of butterflies that are very much found here.
So this monsoon go to the Yeoor Hills and enjoy the nature trails, star gazing, trekking, tree planting activities, and also mountain climbing. Enjoy your visits to the waterfall which are found during the monsoons especially and also experience the pleasures of bird watching as well.
