The location of famous Shalimar Gardens is on the northern side of the Delhi University, this is accessible at the distance of 10 kilometres as of Old Delhi. This is the place where the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb in 1658 was crowned. It is from the Shalimar Gardenlegend that this place was also called as “Aizzabad-Bagh”, which was named after Aizzu’n-Nisa Begum, Shah Jahan’s wife. This once comprised of a splendid palace identified as the Shish-Mahal that stood at its hub. But now the condition of the palace is mostly in its ruined state and is only left with painting patches.

It not only there were also the existence of several other buildings that were present in the garden at a point of time. From the legends it is noted that this place was, Sir David Ochterony’s summer retreat who was the British Commissioner of Delhi. The emperor also used this garden has country’s house.

Shalimar Garden is the one amongst the popular Mughal gardens dwelling in the capital city of India. The best time to visit this gardens is during the spring season this is the time when you can see greenery all around the gardens. Though the glory is not present as it was in the past still it is popular among the tourist and locals.
