Mahakaleshwar Dwelling in the Historical City of Ujjain
I, Anu and Komal were in Madhya Pradesh for our photography assignment,
wherein our topics were to cover the forts, wildlife and temples of this place and link them to each other. So we were all trying hard to do our fullest for our assignment, but I was even enjoying my work we had explored most of the part of this state, covering all the major monuments, temples and many more like Bhojpur, Omkareshwar, Khajuraho, Hindola Mahal, Kanha National Park and many other places in the Ujjain city. When we were in Ujjain, mom had called up to tell me to also visit the Mahakaleshwar temple which is under the list of the twelve Jyotrilingas, she wanted me to visit the temple as it was dedicated to Lord Shiva, as it was the month of Shravan, visiting Shiva’s temple on Monday proves to be very auspicious.
Now when mom wants us to do so, we can’t ignore what she asked us to visit Mahakaleshwar and take blessing of Lord Shiva. This is a beautiful three storeyed temple. In the uppermost parts of the temple and the lowest middle part are the lingams installed of Omkareshwar, Mahakalesvara, Nagachandresvara. But only at the tiem of Nag Panchami the pilgrims or the visitors can have a look at the Nagachandresvara. In the complex of the temple is a existence of a large sized kunda called as Koti Tirtha, the style in which this Kunda is built is sarvatobhadra. The Kunda and the water inside the kunda are considered as celestial. You can also have a look at the pictures of the Paramara period on the path to the kunda. The Mahakaleshwar lingam is colossus. You can see the extra grandeur in the shrine with the silver coated Naga Jaladhari and the and the covering that is the roof of garbhagrha which as a esoteric silver plate is an add on to it looks. At the walls of the temple you can see the exhibition of eulogies of Lord Shiva. There is a Nanda Dipa too that is lit always.
Mahakaleshwar temple gives an enchanting view as it as its location in the close proximity of the lake and also massive walls are surrounded all around the temple. The deity that is found here is called as Dakshinamurtias, it is called so
because the idol the facing the south direction. It is the belief of many
people that visiting this temple during the month of Shravan on Monday to take blessings of Lord Shiva. There is a ritual that is celebrated at the temple called Bhasm Arti; this ritual is a symbolic presentation of life and death. This extraordinary atonement that bears smearing the linga taking hot ashes as of the burning ghats which marks respect to the Universe’s Destroyer who is Lord Shiva.
The Mahakaleshwar temple is a place that I have seen come under the list of serenity, after visiting here you will not find any need of meditation as coming here in the premises of the temple makes your mind fresh.
