New Year’s Eve

The New Year’s Eve is one day that is looked forward to by all and is one of those days which is a favourite amongst festivals. Come December 31,and every one is ready to forgive all the grudges of the year, and all the misgivings and each individual resolves to make the following year very successful and much better than the previous years.

In today’s society, New Year’s Eve is normally observed by having get together, gatherings, small parties and beautiful fireworks. Children, adults and all in general love to wait for this one day and enjoy to their heart’s content forgetting all their worries and troubles.

Across the world New Year’s Eve is something that is celebrated in a different way. In North America, Canada celebrates New Year’s Eve in its own way. The celebrations vary from place to place. But normally the New Year’s Eve or the Veille du Jour de L’an as it is said in French is a day which is a social holiday. So Toronto, Montreal and the Niagara Falls all celebrate New Year with a lot of pomp and show. Rural Quebec sees people drink and make merry with their friends.

Then you have the comedy troupe Royal Canadian Air Farce putting up their annual specials on television.

In Mexico people celebrate new year by having a grape with each chime of the new year midnight countdown. Then they wish well for their families. Mexican sweet bread is then baked with a coin that is hidden in the dough. It is said that the individual who gets the coin or the charm in the dough is blessed with good luck. Mexicans celebrate their New Year’s Eve dinner with a traditional dinner of turkey and mole.

In the Unite States New Year’s Eve is celebrated with a lot of parties and many family oriented activities. It is a public holiday and all the celebrations are centered on observing the day with a lot of festivities. This day is the busiest day in the Walt Disney world Resort in Disneyland and Florida and the parks stay open till late at night. There is the regular show of fireworks which is very the highlight of the New Year’s celebration.

Sometimes on the New Year’s Eve there is a Vigil mass that is held to celebrate the oncoming year with a lot of festivities.

New Years Eve is celebrated in Austria with a lot of friends and family. A lot of music is played and large crowds dance on the Vienna streets. There are fireworks that are let off at the stroke of twelve and generally the people have a lot of fun.

In Belgium, people let off a lot of champagne and enjoy New Year with a lot of display of fireworks the most famous one being the Mont Des Arts in Brussels. Restaurants, cafes all welcome all the guests and the people generally have a lot of fun. The Mont des Arts in Brussels is very famous for its firework display.

In Czech Republic Silvestr or the day before the New Year is the noisiest day in the whole year. People come with champagne and fireworks for the midnight toast and they bring their friends along and eat and drink and make merry. In clubs, city squares and the streets, people come and enjoy the celebrations and have a lot of expectation for the coming New Year.

In Denmark people have marzipan ring cake along with boiled cod, cured saddle of pork and stewed kale, and generally have lot of merrymaking. There are two significant events that are very traditional events here and that is the time when thousands of people gather in Radhuspladsen and cheer a lot. Then the Town Hall Tower Bells chime in Copenhagen and the royal Guard does its parade in lovely resplendent gala red uniforms.

In India the New Year’s Eve celebration takes place in all the cities like Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Guwahati, Ahmedabad etc. Goa is one of the popular destinations with the best concerts and dances that are arranged for the tourists. In Mumbai, large crowds gather in the areas like Gateway of India, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu Beach etc and the ambience is generally electric and the event is spectacular. People wish each other a happy new year and everything is happy and joyful.

Festivals like New Year ensure that there is a lot of happiness and joy around in the world. Celebrate New Year’s Eve this year with a resolution to do better than last year and to help more to save the world and the planet we live in. New Year’s Eve gives us a chance to make the world a better place and helps us to connect with the better part of the world’s development. 2012 is the time when we could help our world to be a better place and New Year’s Eve is a time to make a promise towards this.
