Untouched Beauty of Tamil Nadu, Kolli Hills
I had never visited hill station during monsoon, but I was interested in doing that atleast once, I spoke to my friends
about this urge of mine and now in just few hours my urge was theirs urge too, of visiting a hill station in monsoon. We were going around through the list of hill station are safe while visiting during monsoon. Ellu was a bit doubtful of our plan, but we made her realize that we will surely have fun; we had almost visited all the hill stations of Maharashtra so this time we were planning to move out of Maharashtra. Aksu had heard of a small hill station in Tamil Nadu called Kolli Hills; we took quiet a few information on the same and decided this as our destination for picnic. Unlike other hill station of Lonavala, Mahableshwar, Jammu & Kashmir, Kolli Hills has its own significance.
As we were going to Tamil Nadu, it was needed that we would book hotels as we were planning our halt in Tamil Nadu for three days. We always preferred taking our own car because it makes us feel comfortable and we can explore places
accordingly, if we take our own car. All bags packed to start with the journey to the Kolli Hills. We booked our rooms in Arrow Mansion which is opposite to some Semmudu Bus Stand.
Our journey was a bit tiring as we were traveling by road and it was a long journey too, soon after we reached our hotel we decided to rest for the day and then we could start on the next day. I didn’t even know when I was asleep that night, the next morning was bearing a new excitement in its arms for us. Our urge of visiting a hill station at the time of monsoon was soon gonna come true. Kolli Hills is a mountain having its location in the Namakkal District of the central Tamil Nadu in India. The height of the mountains is about 1000m to 1300m and these mountains cover the area of 200 sq kilometer approximately. To reach to the top of the Kolli Hills it as seventy hair pin bends. This wonderful Kolli Hills is a element of the Eastern Ghats; these ranges are parallel to South India’s east coast. Tourism as still not reached Kolli Hills and their natural beauty is still retained its glory. After reaching Kolli Hills I realized that apart from only visiting waterfalls and beaches during monsoon, hill stations are also a best place to plan your picnic. This place is also called as Kolli Malai, the “Mountains of Death”, the legend behind this is that there is an image known as Kollippaval on the hills top. The image is considered to be the image of the maiden spirit who was enticed wayfarers by her beauty and then was being killed them. The features of Kolli Hills can be seen in various works of the Tamil classical literature like Manimekalai, Purananuru, Ainkurnuru and Silappathigaram. The guardian of Kolli Hills is done by the local deity, Kollipavai.
I very sure that this place can make you feel fresh, the natural surroundings of this hills is extremely mind blowing you cant even thinking of it before visiting this place. We visited this place early in the morning so we could enjoy the scene of the clouds that covered the hills; it was making us feel as if we were standing on the clouds and flying in the air. The pictures that we clicked weren’t enough for explaining the beauty of this place. The scenic beauty of Kolli Hills was eye locked. Starting from morning 6 am to 3 pm in the afternoon we were on the hills and the main thing was that we wouldn’t even realize the time, when it was the time to get down off the hills, I wasn’t feeling like doing so as it was so beautiful and tranquil. Apart from it beauty it is also famous as farming, these mountains are covered with evergreen forests, though now most of the forest area is cleared for agriculture. The main products that are cultivated on this mountain are pineapple, black pepper, coffee, tea, jackfruit, and other spices. The jackfruit that is grown in these mountains is also very popular.
