Yercaud Travel Pleasures and Ultimate Luxuries

With the most picturesque surroundings and ideal greenery around, Yercaud is a place which is steadily gaining a lot of popularity in the arena of tourism in India. Locals here speak the Tamil language and the sights of foreigner’s alongwith the locals is one of intrigue for all. “Yeri ” means lake and “kaadu” means forest. So Yercaud means a lake in the forest.

Very famous for its coffee plantations and the cottages, this is one land that has some of the best forests in their original state and has the best plethora of flora and fauna. Come here and see the lovely coffee plants along with the orchards of guava and jackfruits. The spices of India are from here, as here is where they are grown in plenty. So get to see the cardamom, pepper and also the other plantation crops which give great value to the tourist’s eye. The coffee plants of this region date back to the time when the plants were brought from Africa in the year 1820 by M.D. Cockburn.

Yercaud with its forests of sandal wood and teak alongwith the silver oaks is a beautiful region filled with maximum tour pleasures.  The wildlife here is mainly foxes, bison, deer and squirrels as also snakes and other birds like swallows, kites, sparrows and bulbuls.

The temperature here is very pleasant, so people who come here do not need any kind of warm clothing as the climate is quite tourist friendly. Many spots for trekking are available here in Yercaud, and it is only those who actually look out for a lot of adventure and excitement who make it a lively place during the times of tourism. The month of May sees a lovely summer festival here which is conducted with a lot of flower shows, fairs and dog shows. Yercaud is one land with lot of things to do and many things to see. So this land of exciting visual delights and travel ecstasies is something that many tourists would love to capture forever.

This hill resort in the state of Tamil Nadu was thus the ideal destination we wanted to be in for our holidays and it was thus very natural that we simply loved to bask in the serene surroundings. Yercaud with its pleasant climate and beautiful sights gives to the tourists, what they expect.

So come and see the Yercaud Lake which is surrounded by the luscious green surroundings which make it a mystical land of heavenly experiences. With beautiful blooms that are seen in the month of May the whole area is filled with a kind of delight that is unbeatable. Boats here are available in two ways, one is the paddling one and the other is the 4-seater boats. There are greatly wooded locales in and around the lake making it a perfect tourist experience for the visitor.

Then we went to the Anna Park which is lovely region near the Yercaud Lake. With a beautiful garden this is a lovely place for the kids. Then you also have the Gandhi Park, lake Park and the Children Park here which makes a good travel experience here near the lake.

Also we saw a group of rocks called the Lady’s Seat which lies on the southwestern side of the hills. These clusters of rocks are in front of the Ghat road and the town of Salem. Tourists normally come here and have a fantastic view of the entire land below, and the telescope that is there on top of the hill ensures that the visitor gets the best view of the entire place.

Then we went to the Pagoda Point which is another view point here that is situated on the eastern part of the Yercaud hills. This has four piles of stones that are arranged such that they look like a pyramid. It is said that the local people built this and today there is a temple with the presiding deity as Lord Rama. This is one point that gives a great view of the Salem town and one can also see the Kakambadi village from here.

Then there was the Kiliyur Falls which is another lovely place that is located around 3 km from the Yercaud Lake. This is the best waterfall in this part of the world and has the most delightful travel memories.

The Grange is a lovely castle that was built by M.D.Cockburn who was the Salem District Collector in the year 1820. This is a major tourist attraction here and is also one of the oldest buildings in Yercaud. This is a place that is very famous for the commercial activities like the plantations and the orange and apple orchards etc.

The Shevaroy Hill, the Bird’s Cave and other major tourists attractions done we came back a satisfied lot from the lovely Yercaud in the beautiful state of Tamil Nadu.
